''Positive parenting'' webcast
ParentsCentre is now showing the video of an interview with Parenting Advisor for the NSPCC Eileen Hayes on anger management. In the interview, Eileen addresses issues such as appropriate discipline for under-ones, how to cope if your child is overly aggressive, and the support available to under-pressure parents from the NSPCC.
A survey conducted by the NSPCC reveals that one in six parents of babies and toddlers lose their temper with their child almost every other day, and that parents who lose their temper are four times more likely to hit their children. The most likely reason for parents to lose their temper is when their child is being physically aggressive.
It was as a reaction to these statistics that the 'Hit means lost it' campaign was launched in February 2005. With 48 per cent of parents admitting that in hitting their child they are overreacting, it is hoped that the campaign has enabled them to be more rational when they start to get angry.
