''Vocational courses'' webchat

On 30 June 2005, Fame Academy's vocal coach David Grant discussed the benefits of vocational courses to promote SkillCity 2005, the UK's largest interactive careers event.
SkillCity 2005 took place between 6 and 9 July at the ExCel exhibition centre in London's Docklands. The event - for which entry was free - saw some 120,000 visitors aged between 12 and 30 given a wealth of advice to help them decide what to do after leaving school, college or a job.
Visitors were able to try their hand at a number of different work-related skills and had the chance to speak to experts and celebrities. Invitations were sent to all secondary schools and colleges in the UK.
The webchat with David Grant was to promote SkillCity 2005 by highlighting the benefits of children learning vocational skills after they have finished school. A SkillCity 2005 survey revealed a cultural shift towards skill-based careers, with two thirds of 16 to 24 year olds believing good quality vocational skills to be of more importance than a traditional academic degree.
Grant was fielding questions with the aim of helping young people make what can be a difficult but very important decision. He said: "As a vocal coach I am always encouraging others to perfect their skills, so it is an absolute delight to be involved with SkillCity, an event that supports people interested in learning skills and achieving excellence in their skill area."
